It's possible.

The last two Vice Presidents have been elder statesman types, so it may be a trend.

And in that case, a younger nominee might select the older Veep for a variety of reasons (adds gravitas to the ticket, ensures the running mate is well-vetted, avoids a choice that does harm). A Kirsten Gillibrand or Cory Booker might keep Biden as a running mate, especially if polls show them 4-5 points ahead.
