The editor, Charb, has reportedly died. He was one of the most brilliant pens of the journal (I used to read it a couple years ago), truly an unrelenting defender of liberty and justice. I really hope this isn't true.

Truly terrible - but sadly we all knew something like this was possible (and probable)

The death toll has risen to 12 plus 5 seriously wounded; Hollande has declared that this was a terrorist attack and called for an emergency meeting in the government later today. No news about the identity of the shooters

I have seen reports that the killers were of the "African type", and that some shouted "Allahou Akbar". But reports like these tend to flourish these days for any type of crime, and are denied later in many cases. So I'll wait for confirmation.

Surely the Islam fundies terrorists are the likeliest origin of the attack.
