His past and legacy offends the right people (the cancellers on both the left and right), seeing as the man frequently apologized and worked to redeem himself till the day of his death. But I consider him one of the best senators of all time, and definitely the most fascinating.

Liberals shouldn't complain. After all, as Bill Clinton explained, he was just a country boy:


He also published a four-volume series on the history of the US Senate as well as a book about the Roman Senate.
