The last democratic candidate who had populist views on the political economy was Walter Mondale 1984. The following democratic candidates - Michael Dukakis, Bill Clinton, Al Gore, John Kerry, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton - had pro-market views. The recent democratic candidates are so pro-market that the media about financial markets supports the democrats in the general elections, while it supports conservative candidates in other countries. Why populists like Bernie Sanders, John Edwards, Howard Dean, Tom Harkin and Dick Gephardt could not win the primaries? The voters in democratic primaries are more leftist than the average of the country.
