Every election since 1972 for Maine and since 1992 for Nebraska has the district results (i.e., the year in which each state switched to using the district system of allocation of EVs). If you can't see it I'm assuming it's because you haven't paid for annual membership.

Maine came very close to splitting its EVs in 1976 with Carter only losing ME-2 by about 0.2%. And the closest Perot came to winning an EV nationwide was ME-02 in 1992 where he lost by about 4.5% or so (too lazy to look up the exact numbers now).

Reagan won both districts in Maine by more than 3 percent in 1980. I guess you could say they were both "close" therefore, but the first district was only slightly closer than the 2nd.

Until the last decade, Maine's districts voted very similarly to each other, with the 2nd sometimes even being more Democratic as the 1st (as in 1976).
