Ben Jealous will win in 2022 and centrist neolibs will weep when he wins the primary, only for him to win by double digits in the general

Republicans should nominate Matt Rosendale.

Y'all are ridiculous with this "Matt Rosendale is a Marylander" attack. The only reason Montana is growing as it is, is because of transplants. He's hardly alone in relocating to a western state. He was elected to the Montana legislature in 2010, and to a statewide office in 2016. He's now a Montanan.... contrast that with Hillary Rodham Clinton, who decided she was suddenly a New Yorker 5 minutes before running for Senate so she could find relevance after the White House.

Whatever you say, but it worked, so obviously it's a potent message. Somebody like Fox or Zinke probably would have won.

How dare you besmirch the good name of Hillary Rodham Clinton? She's a New York icon and I won't hear a word otherwise.

No, he’s right, actually. It "worked" for Tester the same way it worked for Rob "Montana incarnate" Quist against Greg "New Jersey multi-millionaire" Gianforte or for Jack Mudd against "Missourian" Conrad Burns in 1994. The carpetbagger thing (it’s pretty sad that someone who moved to a state 16 years ago(!) is considered a "carpetbagger" by some people these days, but whatever) is exactly the kind of "issue" people from other states think is going to sway a ton of voters but that’s actually hardly ever a decisive factor in an election. You’re out of your mind if you seriously believe that 18,000 Montanans only voted for Tester because Rosendale was born in Maryland. The only people who always brought it up at any given opportunity were, surprise, the same people who love to rail against Trump, Zinke, Gianforte, Fox, etc. at any given opportunity. In other words: Democrats or Democratic-leaning voters who were never going to vote against Tester anyway and who certainly didn’t support "true Montanan" Denny Rehberg in 2012 either (you know, the guy who did worse than Rosendale in a better year for Republicans.) I also doubt that Zinke would have beaten Tester, but yeah, Fox likely would have made it a Toss-up race (it probably goes to a recount with him as the nominee, if you ask me.)

There were other problems (you know, actual problems) with Rosendale's campaign that mattered far more than his place of birth, lmao. I doubt it even mattered that much in Morrisey's case, tbh. They were underwhelming candidates for other reasons.

Morrisey's problem was trying to sue half the states healthcare system into complete destruction.
