Why does the PA GOP bench suck so much?

They seem to have the same problem as the MN GOP, in that in their safe areas they nominate candidates that are either 1-absolute crazies or 2-the sort of boring and charisma-less types who can get back in a safe district or 3-both of the above (example: Mastriano) and while those candidates can still win because they're in safe areas it makes them entire nonstarters for statewide office.

I love how the Doomer take has shifted from "Mastriano will likely win, you people happy he was nominated are so foolish!" to "Mastriano will never be nominated again."
