He may well be trying to posture in order to run for NY Governor in 2018. Andrew Cuomo may not be the Democratic candidate then. King is appropriately conservative, but responsible, and he has a base in the suburbs of NYC that have been trending Democratic. If Cuomo isn't the Dem candidate for Governor in 2018, King is one of their best hopes.

He'd probably just be another Rick Lazio and not even get the chance to lose badly in the general election.
