MC5 were a proto-Punk group from Michigan. They did not last very long-ended in 1972-but many people cite them as influences. Fred "Sonic" Smith also was married to Rock Haller Patti Smith and his nickname is the namesake of Sonic Youth.

Is Atlas kicking out their jams, or kicking them off?

Dear. God. No.

I'm sorry but, while I generally loath Millennial bashing, that is the most generationally ignorant question I have read in..... Possibly ever.

These guys have the strongest lineage of possibly any musicians to claim being the first punk rock band. At least in America.

These guys influence extends to many bands, including Bob Seger, used to jam with them is early days, Patti Smith who is lead singer Sonic's Miss Widow oh, and most prominently today Rage Against the Machine listen to their cover of kick out the jams oh, and MC5 classic..

These guys have minimal influence in terms of chart-topping hits, obviously. However they were badasses among the badasses, and very politically aware. Check them out on Wikipedia and a documentary floating around YouTube, plus some of their live performances on YouTube as well. I did so while getting in an internet spiral about a month or two ago. Time well spent
