In late 1979, President Jimmy Carter declines to seek re-election as President of the United States in the upcoming Presidential Election. In a shock, Vice President Walter Mondale declines to seek re-election thanks, in part due to family reasons.
Carter and Mondale's decisions not to seek the Democratic Nomination in 1980, leaves a massive void to fill for the Democrats in 1980. The shocks continue when Washington Senator Henry 'Scoop' Jackson somehow manages to win the Democratic Nomination, defeating favourite of the liberals Senator Ted Kennedy.
At the Democratic National Convention in New York City, Senator Jackson is nominated unanimously and selects Governor Hugh Carey of New York to be his running mate.
Whilst on the Republican side, every goes the same as according to real life. Former Governor Ronald Reagan of California wins the Republican Nomination and selects former Congressman and Ambassador to China, George H.W. Bush to be his running mate.
How would the 1980 Presidential Election turn out?
Discuss with maps.
