This is not really a "gotcha". If we temporarily and hypothetically entertain that this is true, the GOP would simply be following the logic of opposition parties in other hybrid democracies, where campaigns are continually launched even if the playing field is tilted against them. Look at Hungary! And, sometimes, it works--although a little bit of nationwide protest might be necessary as well.
