I think Heitkamp can still make it. A Kavanaugh confirmation will help her much more than a rejection would have. Republicans have less motivation to punish her now that he’ll make the court.

I think those comments Cramer made about sexual assault really were taken for granted. It seemed to give Heitkamp the cover she needed to vote against Kavanaugh. Little did we know Cramer’s support has only grown since then.

I also think ND was seen as a populist-Dem friendly state like WV or MT. I think the Dems underestimated how oil workers dominate ND and are less likely to be against Trump. It was seen as a farming state. And Heitkamp failed to reach out to the oil workers the same way Manchin has with miners in WV.
