I disagree with this analysis, at least in part. Any quick skim of the right-wing internet shows that plenty of the people leaving are Trump people re-registering as independents out of disgust over congressional Republicans refusing to overturn the election.

140000 split among half the states is really not much at all. Double that for simple math, but then compare it to the 74 million who voted for Trump.

The Republican party is still overwhelmingly proudly trumpist.

He'll either be convicted, or the Republican nominee for congress wherever he lives.

And if it's a suitably red District like Georgia 14, he'll be elected. After all, better a cop eye gouging Capitol storming conspiracy theory espousing far right Trumpist than (gasp!) a Democrat!

Another Capitol police officer has committed suicide, with his wife reporting that he "was not the same" since January 6th, and was depressed that people would commit such violence over lies (QAnon, etc.). Several Capitol Hill officers have reportedly threatened self-harm since the events of January 6th, including one who turned her own gun in to prevent herself from committing suicide.

How awful.
May all those trump bastards that stormed The Capitol go to Hell.

And the ignorant f**** parroting lies about election fraud that led to this tragedy likewise deserve to burn in hell.

Could the refusal of multiple municipalities to honestly enforce the law against BLM and Antifa rioters in city after city have supplied that brainstorm to come up with this genius idea?

"I'll just look like ANTIFA.  I'll get away with anything!".  What events since May, 2020 would give this man the idea that this was not so?

LOL LOL LOL! I read this post and was just about to respond that some cultists like fuzzy would be simple enough to actually believe it. Right on time! LOLOLOL!!

Suspect held after deportation from Kenya
Quote
An American linked to January's deadly riots at the US Capitol in Washington DC has been summoned to a court in New York after being deported from Kenya.

Isaac Sturgeon, 32, of Dillon, Montana, was arrested by the FBI on arrival at JFK airport over the weekend.

He is charged with seven counts including shoving a metal barricade into police officers. On Monday, he was released on a $250,000 (£181,000) bond.

A mob loyal to Donald Trump stormed the Congress building on 6 January.

The attack saw five people including a police officer killed, and shook the foundations of American democracy.

Mr Sturgeon was brought before New York's federal court on Monday.

He had been staying in Kenya since 24 January, and was planning to return to the US in April, according to court documents.

According to the New York Post, which saw the documents, Mr Sturgeon was deported from the country after an arrest warrant was issued by the FBI.

He flew to the East African nation after texting other people to ask whether he was wanted, the Washington Post quoted prosecutors as saying. The prosecutors also argued he posed a flight risk.

The newspaper said Mr Sturgeon had told the court: "I wasn't trying to flee", adding that he travelled frequently.

The prosecutors allege he was seen on an officer's body-worn camera taking part in the 6 January riots.

Abort! ABORT! ABORT! The secret  is out!

it was just an antifa member using his George Soros check to fly to Kenya to stay with Obama at his birth play place

Kenya? Is a country like that about the last place I could see a qanon trumpist type fleeing to? Surely there have to be other places lacking extradition treaties - - which apparently even Kenya doesn't! - - that a deplorable like him wouldn't likely consider such a "sh**thole country". Huh

That actually fits the petite bourgeois line, building up histories of tax liens and bankruptcies are more a thing that crappy businessmen than struggling workers build up
Ok, now this is perhaps the most epic post of 2021

Today (March 20) was the date that some of the conspiracy theorists were talking about after nothing happened on March 4.  Nothing continues to happen.

Possibly related: there's a die-hard Trump supporter in my neighborhood who's had a Trump-Pence sign in their yard since at least the beginning of 2020.  They took it down today and replaced it with a "Pray for America" sign.
I think most have lost all hope and the few diehards have split in multiple directions to irrelevancy. Much like the militia loons now.

It feels as if now the militia loons will enter dormancy until they get heeded to call from the next Republican president. They seriously bit more that they can chew and are severely demoralized and functionally inert with all their middle members dealing with their legal fees. Most likely that they will stick with laying low and only occasionally peeping their heads when it’s safe and easy PR to do so. However, it seems like the rhetoric of hate will cause lone wolves to fill in the gap, like what we saw in Atlanta.

Can we seriously change the thread title? It’s unnecessarily fearmongering and aged in a time where now it’s focused on the investigation and trial of the putschists.

They may be dormant, but these violence prone fascist auxiliary foot soldiers haven't disappeared. They're simply waiting for a new hero 2 emerge and reissue the rallying cry.

US Capitol rioter who tried to flee to Switzerland is jailed pre-trial.

A geophysicist who allegedly beat police officers who were trying to help injured rioters during the US Capitol siege will be jailed before trial, a federal judge ruled Wednesday, citing the man's ham-handed attempt to flee to Switzerland as proof that he poses a literal flight risk.

Judge Emmet Sullivan said Jeffrey Sabol was too dangerous to release due to the flight risk and because he might continue his fight against "perceived tyranny" once he is out of jail.

"He stripped a vulnerable police officer of his police baton," Sullivan wrote in a 64-page ruling. "He then used that stolen police baton to force another officer away from his post and into a mob of rioters who proceeded to viciously attack him, leaving him bleeding from the head."

How in the world, does a geophysicist fall for trump related stupidity (and worse, attend an Insurrection and beat police officers)?

Education doesn't make you intelligent - or more importantly, empathy.

Yep. That is, incidentally, demonstrated regularly in this forum

https://www.axios.com/january-6-commission-deal-6b1b41dd-b0c6-406d-824c-645a842c7b68.html

Pelosi, Schumer, McCarthy and McConnell have finally come up with a deal to create a bipartisan commission investigating January 6th.

Good God. Why include McConnell and McCarthy in this in anything more than a protection bases? You realize they are going to do everything humanly possible to cover up get in the horrible unconstitutional anti-democratic literally treasonous actions taken by Trump and his inner circle.

I think they want it to be bipartisan for the optics, but regardless they need at least McConnell on board so it can pass the Senate.

Then it will never pass the Senate.
