Word is that Toomey is announcing his candidacy for Governor very soon. If true, Specter will be spared of his biggest primary threat.

But before Don and the Specter fans start popping champagne...

Please realize that this is the rumor now (though I've heard it through the grapevine from people in Toomey's area) and even if true, he might be forced out of the race if Corbett looks to have it wrapped up.

Also...

If true, it doesn't mean that Specter is out of the clear. We have a few candidates out there that could beat Specter in a one on one race including a mystery candidate. Stay tuned.

By the way, two things about the "mystery candidate"...

1) Specter's biggest positive going into 2010 is that he is the only electable candidate. He could not use that argument against this opponent.

2) Specter likes to label his primary opponents as far right lunatics. Again, he could not use that argument against this opponent.

So, clearly it is not Rick Santorum you're telling me.  I hope Tom Ridge doesn't want to go back to Washington...

No, it's not Santorum.  Tongue

By the way, chances of this happening are about 60%.

Uh, no. Tongue

I won't comment any further either. If you're really, really interested, I'll give some vague hints via private message but nothing more.

Give it a few years and I'm sure we'll be talking about one of his daughters.  Tongue

You know...the daughters that convinced him to support Obama. What a joke.
