Governor Bono has made a very good argument against such projects. It is not, I think, relevant if a project costs several billion dollars, or "only a few million." In either case, I feel that it constitutes unwarranted waste of taxpayer money.

Certainly, the arts and sciences are very important, but no-one on the other side has conclusively demonstrated that these will suffer because private individuals rather than the government will pay for them.

The question is on final passage. All those in favor, say Aye; those opposed, say No.

Sen. Colin is assumed to be absent, since he hasn't posted in a while.

To approve a non-essential spending increase at a time of national stringency strikes me as fiscally irresponsible. I hope that one or more Senators may be persuaded to change their votes to No.

But the federal government supports education in many other ways.  Why should the government not support the fine arts?
Well, subsidizing paintings does not really contribute to education in any direct manner.

There have voted:

Aye: 5
No: 4

The bill is accordingly passed, and presented to the President.

Does Sen. True Independent desire a veto override vote?

The question, then, is on overriding the President's veto. All those in favor, say Aye; those opposed, say No.

The bill has enough votes to fail. Senators have 24 hours to vote or change their votes.
