As I've stated before, for any liberals or conservatives who have never been around immigrant neighborhoods, the easiest way to bypass illegal immigration and deportation is to marry an American citizen and get a green card.  This is one of the strongest reasons why Obama opposes federal gay marriage because it will allow for gay/platonic marriage to foreign spouses, so instead of finding a poor american woman or man to marry, it will be easier to arrange a fake gay marriage, and as the POTUS, Obama's top priority is homeland security and allowing for gay green cards would open up a immigration funnel that the government doesn't have the budget to handle all the applicants.  To think we would live in a day where it would be okay to "pretend to be gay for citizenship" and while this is a desirable agenda for gay people to nullify breeder elitism and denigrate marriage so that it becomes a platonic relationship that can be abused by anyone seeking government advantages such as citizenship.  For anyone who has spent time in the immigrant community, it is understandable that illegal immigrants will do absolutely anything to stay in America and get green cards, and yes, this includes pretending to be gay.  Now I don't think there is nothing wrong with pretending to be gay for your own selfish reasons like obtaining citizenship; and really the government and INS agents rarely stop fake green card marriages but they can make the interviews a hassle, you live 3 years of your life with your fake spouse, and then you get a quickie divorce once you become a permanent citizen for just $5000 bucks on the black market.  Another poster on this forum condoned his lesbian friend marrying a mexican man to get citizenship, and while this was a fraudulent marriage, it shows just how widespread fake straight and gay marriages will be amongst green card marriages.  In some ways it is defrauding the government and using the "loving and eternal marriage theory" as a ruse for the doubters that no citizen or foreigner would ever abuse the marriage system for financial gain.  Basically, it can be difficult and a hassle to go through INS interviews to get the green card, but if federal gay marriage is approved, I can see the whole sexuality, intercourse, consummation guidelines being thrown out and rubber-stamping every Green Card marriage application.

Yeah here in Sweden we've had huge problems with all our illegals suddenly entering into same-sex marriages since it was legalised.

That may be true, but America is larger, has to deal with more terrorist attacks and threats, and also everyone in the third world is trying to immigrate to America.  It may be the hollywood media attraction, but sweden is colder, does not speak engish or spanish, and while they have hotter women, its difficult to travel to.

Also, in case anyone was wondering, Health Care companies have a clause that states gay couples must have a sexual relationship in the past 12 months, so yeah, Health care companies are concerned with fraudulent fake gay couples as well.  They might not be watching gay people have intercourse, whatever you define gay intercourse to be, but I'm sure health care companies will send private investigators if they think a fake gay couple is getting married just for free health care benefits, and one of them turns out to be straight and having straight affairs.  You may think gay marriage is a joke of an issue that the government should blindly approve, but there are millions of dollars in government benefits and private benefits that will be spent on gay couples, so its a serious financial questions with serious financial implications on our local budgets and vast government programs.

Really? You are so dillusional I'm not sure wether to laugh or cry.  I'm not even going to try to understand how terrorist attacks is somehow linked to the issue of same-sex marriage in your head.

At least people like jmfcst can admit that they don't like homosexuality, and don't hide behind some idiotic conspiracy theory. You on the other hand is simply pathetic.

Well since you do not live in America, it would be difficult for you to understand.  But illegal immigration is a huge problem in America, and the fastest and easiest way to obtain a green card and permanent residency is through marriage.  Terrorists try to enter the US through numerous methods and the most common was student visas, but I'm sure many also try to marry an American citizen.  It doesn't matter what you think, the US federal government and President Obama clearly agrees with me and views gay marriage as illegal at the federal level.  I don't know what Obama's reasoning for opposing gay marriage, but I'm sure he is well aware of the consequences of federal gay marriage on the many federal programs affected by gay marriage including Immigration and Nationalization.

You can claim that federal subsidization of gay marriage is a right, but I don't think the government should subsidize someone or a couple just because you are married.  Do you need to get married to get free health insurance, a green card, or widow pensions?  Is it the government's job to pay people to get married with financial incentives?

In the present-day, marriage benefits have evolved because they were meant to support unemployed stay-at-home moms who did not have a source of income or health insurance.  I can argue that these so-called marriage incentives are unconstitutional.  This is the very definition of Big Government.  It can also be said that it is dicrimination against single people who also would like free health insurance, green cards, and other marriage benefits.

If you choose to define gay marriage, then you also need to allow for platonic same-sex marriage as well.  While I think some platonic couples don't want to be labeled gay, but would love to have these benefits.  I think if you want to push the definition of marriage, then lets just push it all the way to include single people and platonic same-sex roommates.  Lets not discriminate based on sexual activity.
