The faster the man's out of office, the better.  NYC needs someone who's capable of thinking realistically...

What's wrong with banning styrofoam?

Blatant islamophobia and elitism from Mayor Bloomberg.  I assume he's not eating a lot of $5 chicken and rice.

Wait, what does this have to do with halal?

In NYC "halal" (also) refers to middle eastern food sold on the street- doner kebab, falafel, et al. They are usually packaged in styrofoam containers.

They should switch to renewable material, and raise prices a little bit.

Seems like a pretty necessary regulation to me.

Is any one going to post a good reason why they oppose this or just keep empty quoting a vague statement?

Why is Styrofoam bad? Why should the government go out of the way to ban a material that is so readily available and prevalent? It’s just stupid. There is literally no reason for it. NYC is a sh**thole regardless of the affects of “Styrofoam pollution.”

The health and environmental effects are well documented. I'll let you look into it on your own.

Why should the government go out of the way to ban a material that is so readily available and prevalent?

Something shouldn't be banned because it's prevalent? That's odd reasoning. What's your opinion on asbestos?

NYC is a sh**thole regardless of the affects of “Styrofoam pollution.”

No, it's not. When was the last time you were there and what did you experience to make you believe it was a "sh**thole" compared to any other city?

Furthermore, what is the harm in this? Putting Big Styrofoam out of business?

Carcinogens?  Chemical pollution?  Non-biodegradable?

It's not something you should package food with.  Besides, the majority of styrofoam is used in shipping.  Paper cups are far more prevalent.

Are you Paultards going to complain about the lack of asbestos gloves now?

The libertarians yearn for the day where they could buy a house with asbestos in the roof and Mercury in the paint when they damn well pleased, while breathing in that fresh CFC-laden air.

For the uninformed who don't think this is a good idea:

It can also penetrate ground water from landfills, and takes up a huge amount of landfill space regardless.
