http://www.theatlanticwire.com/politics/2012/12/jenny-sanford-nikki-haleys-senate-shortlist-and-stephen-colbert-isnt/59860/

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley is thinking about replacing Sen. Jim DeMint with Jenny Sanford — the ex-wife of Mark Sanford, who was governor when he disappeared on 2009 to "hike the Appalachian trial" while actually cheating on her with an Argentinian. Sadly, fake Senate hopeful and fantasy poll leader Stephen Colbert is not on Haley's shortlist, CNN's Peter Hamby reports. The other four contenders are Rep. Try Gowdy, former state Attorney General Henry McMaster, attorney Catherine Templeton, and Rep. Tim Scott, who's benefitted from the most speculation after DeMint announced he'd quit to run the Heritage Foundation.

If she goes with Sanford it might be just as a fill in role......I don't recall any political ambitions for Mrs. Sanford, herself.

If she doesn't appoint Scott, she's an HP. Or more of one.

I would be flummoxed if Gov Haley passed up the opportunity for her party to have the only African American in the Senate.

I can tell who is the real joke here; it isn't Colbert. It's someone whose name rhymes with "sticky raily".

Okay, maybe Mike Johnson is a competent parliamentarian.

This would be the case if Scott weren't an HP.

Really? She is quite ambitious, I remember rumors that she was seriously considering running for her ex-husband's job before endorsing Nikki Haley instead.

But it isn't, because he's a black.

Sounds like what happened in The Politician's Wife.

He's not an HP because he's black, of course, but for other reasons.

So if Scott gets appointed, runs for a full term in 2016, and loses horribly among African-Americans, will Republicans finally put to rest the myth that black people are reverse-racist automatons who always vote for black candidates?

Any Republican will lose badly with blacks because they, like Hispanics (albeit to a lesser extent, and more swingable), are liberal on the issues.

As for the OP: Good. She'd be my second choice after Scott.

Jenny Sanford has some political ambitions, she's just been playing coy. She has a knack for politics - she ran many of her husband's Congressional campaigns and also played a significant role in his Gubernatorial bid.

My guess is that Tim Scott get the Senate spot and Jenny Sanford vies for Scott's Congressional seat.

Of course not.  They ignore Steele, Swann and Blackwell's results, whats one more??

I'm saying that the despite the fact Scott may or may not be an HP, since he's black, not appointing him would make Haley an HP.

That depends on, among other things, if anybody else on the shortlist isn't an HP, but that admittedly doesn't seem to be the case...

I don't recall that but I'll take your word for it.  If she appoints Sanford, it will reek of paying back a debt to the Sanfords.

My mother thought one reason Mark was so sloppy about covering up his hiking trip was it was the one way he could keep Jenny from pushing him to run for President.  Jenny's always been ambitious, but she wanted to be wielding power behind the scenes.   Since that's no longer an option...

Steele still did shockingly well for Maryland... considering Maryland. Maybe not in his demographic but still.
