Colin Powell Fights Back Against Critics

PUBLISHED BY RYAN UNDERWOOD ON MAY 20, 2009 IN NATIONAL NEWS.
Tags: republican party.

Speaking in Boston Tuesday night, former Sec. of State Colin Powell  answered criticism from Rush Limbaugh and former v.p. Dick Cheney, both of whom recently questioned his Republican bona fides. Boston Globe reports:

“Rush Limbaugh says, ‘Get out of the Republican Party.’ Dick Cheney says, ‘He’s already out.’ I may be out of their version of the Republican Party, but there’s another version of the Republican Party waiting to emerge once again,” Powell told the crowd.

Colin Powell and I share the same first name [although I don't pronounce it like an anatomical organ] so I got all hopeful for a minute

Glad you agree with Colon that Americans WANT more taxes and services. I can certainly see that as a conservative position.

I think there's a big difference between perceiving something as reality and actually wanting it to happen.

Americans would like lots of things.  I think fiscal responsibility - meaning paying for what you get - would be foremost among these needs.

Well that vague comment certainly answered my question. Responsibility in this country is dead, plain and simple.

Just give it four years and suddenly tax and spending cuts will look a lot better again. Wink

I don't like Rush or Dick and certainly would not have their back.

That said, Colin endorsed Obama, losing a massive amount of respect that I once had for him.

To be more specific, his name is "Colin".

Personally, I don't want higher taxes and more government.  I'd like less government - less government in my financial affairs and less government in my personal affairs.

Once we start kicking people out of the Party for increasing the size of government in personal affairs, then we can talk about kicking people out for increasing the size of government in economic affairs.

I can't believe that you have the gall to call a man who achieved the rank of four-star general in our armed services a "self-serving" anything.
