im unfamiliar with grier martin.  is that dg martin who ran in the democrat primary in 98 but lost to edwards?  the guy that looks like steve martin?

as for richard petty, i disagree with hardrcafe.  his loss wasnt an upset.  he was an *awful* candidate.  the man can barely string a sentence together.  didnt he also get into some trouble over some comments he made?

i knew someone in the media back in nc, and he told me richard petty was one of the most arrogant people he has ever covered.  he said he was an unfriendly jerk.

how political is dean smith?

ive always heard he is a....gasp....liberal.

but the only issue ive ever heard him speak out on is his opposition to the death penalty.

the only time i can recall him being active in politics is when he made some commercials for richard vinroot...a republican.
