Based on the info we know so far, I actually think there's a chance Trump will have a dip in the polls after the convention.

It's sure possible if TRUMP veers off script and starts ranting about Mexican judges and Elizabeth "Pocahontas" Warren.

That's not off script for Trump. That is the script.

Is there any evidence Trump would have lost if all the primaries were closed?  Based on what I've seen in exit polls, Trump seemed to do similarly well with indies as registered Republicans.

There's only evidence that Cruz and Rubio did substantially worse among Independents. Kasich was the one who massively over-performed with Indies.
