Didn't he get like 70% in the 9th district in 2008, while McCain got 55%?

Pretty close. In the new 9th, Obama got 45% while Perdue got 32%.

Pretty similar. 65% McCrory, 55% McCain.

His strength in Mecklenburg county was impressive. He ran 12 points ahead of McCain (49 vs. 37).

Didn't Perdue run to the right of McCrory in '08?

She ran some ads that tried to make her seem like the country gal against the city boy who was out of touch with NC values. In the last week or so she rans vowing to crack down on illegals (Something McCrory had vowed to do) and attacking McCrory for wanting to bring NJ and NY Garbage in to NC's dumps.

That could be good news for McCory as well.

Brad Miller is also considering a run now as well. I just seen that on my local news

I told Miller I'd support him if he ran, but I think it's best for Dems to line up behind Dalton at this point.

Perdue has actually been better than I had thought. I first thought she was quite conservative for a Democrat, but she's vetoed a lot of awful legislative bills. Perhaps those bills were bad enough for her to stand up to them.

This might not be bad electorally speaking, but if Perdue is unpopular, I wonder what other Dem could win, but perhaps a fresh face couldn't hurt.

Mike McIntyre has ruled out running for Governor. He's staying where Democrats need him most; in his Congressional race.

I'm still waiting for Brad Miller to make a decision. He said he'd make up his mind last weekend...

He is leading the primary poll I saw on local news with about 38% or so. It had quite a few undecideds though.

http://www.wral.com/news/state/nccapitol/story/10719961/

A review of election defeats, resignations and retirements shows that of the 30 Democratic senators in early 2009, 19 of them are no longer in the Senate or won't return after this year. In the House, 37 of the 68 Democrats in 2009 either are already gone, announced they won't seek re-election in 2012 or will be at home. Some won't return in 2013 because they'll lose to a fellow incumbent in the May primary. Others may not win in November. The candidate filing period begins Monday.

Wow. They got owned.

Of course...its called Republican redistricting.

This could be something of a perfect storm for NC Democrats.

2008 seemed like our high-water mark, with Obama winning the state, Hagan thumping Dole and Perdue extending the GOP's Gubernatorial losing streak to 5 consecutive election cycles.

Still, 2010 was the most detrimental year for us. We made a bad showing then and we'll be paying for that for the foreseeable future.

The trend though is working against the Republicans and we still have strong statewide candidates.

Also, we don't have Art Pope stuffing our candidates' pockets.

The Democrats were pretty stupid to not have just changed the law to give the Governor veto power over redistricting plans when they had the chance. Even if it was shameless and partisan there's no denying that court-drawn maps would've been far more fair than the abominations that were passed.

It's a constitutional provision, not a law.

Also, the Dems didn't have a lame duck session after the Nov. elections.

Personally, I'm of the opinion that an Etheridge-McCrory race would be really fun to watch, even if it wasn't particularly close. Anyone inclined to agree?

The Democrats are in control of North Carolina's governorship since 1993. Fatigue, anyone?

They were also in control of the Legislature since Reconstruction; I think NC voters regret putting the Republicans in the majority.

Appearently, Etheridge announced but didn't file and the deadline is in a few days. Might he have been just engaging in a publicity stunt or is he real?

I like him, but I think he's too old (71 on election day). I wish they'd just clear the primary for Dalton.
