Obama: 42%
McCain: 39%

What if the candidates for president were Democrat Hillary Clinton or Republican John McCain?

Clinton: 46%
McCain: 43%

Polling was conducted by telephone August 19-20, 2008, in the evenings. The total sample is 900 registered voters nationwide with a margin of error of ±3 percentage points.

It's kind of interesting how the Clinton/McCain match-up has fewer undecideds.

A lot of those undecideds are Hillary voters.

Probably, although McCain also loses 4%.  Sort of a strange results relative to past polling; usually I'd assume animosity decreases.

maybe the whole thesis about Hillary being polarizing has some truth after all.

Fox News likes to "award" McCain 5 points. Also, this poll failed to account for the youth cellphone factor. That's another 5 for Obama. So here is the updated, official results:

Obama: 47%
McCain: 34%

Of course it does.  She's also a "known quantity."

Well, it's nice to see a poll where he actually improved his standing if nothing else.

He's a Fox News Democrat, like Bernard Goldberg, who talks up JFK as a great President. Cadell worked on Jimmy Carter's campaign thirty-plus years ago but has been very critical of Democrats over the past couple of decades.

Well, it's an improvement on the previous FOX Poll, IIRC. Obama +1; McCain -1
