I might also want to add that you might not want to go all Young Republican on her right off the bat if she's an Arab, college-student in Pennsylvania (four Democratic categories).

Yeah, yeah, I don't do that anyway. I think people can usually tell right off the bat though and, if asked, I would never lie about it. If someone is going to dislike me for being a Republican (not active in YRs and only mildly active with the CRs) then that's their problem.

I doubt she remembers ever seeing my "Pennsylvania for McCain - Palin" pin on my bag.  Wink

She's a liberal? Look, a girl isn't worth it if you have to change who you are to be with her. I never date a girl who's a liberal. It never works out in the end.

Actually, the women who have tended to like me the most were liberal women. Almost like a "I hate your politics but it makes you seem hotter" type of deal.

Follow the discussion, friend. She doesn't have one. And I know your little plan. I'd add her, you'd see her name on my Wall and you'd stir up trouble. Nice try.  Wink

When did I ever say that the girl is a liberal? And more importantly, when did I ever say that I'd change to be with someone? I think I specifically said something to the contrary. I'm never changing what I fundamentally believe for any relationship.

I like people that are different than I am. My ex-girlfriend was a self proclaimed socialist (probably not really the case but she is definitely a liberal). I don't mind that at all; I embrace that. I don't like living in an echo chamber world.

I've never seen a relationship with two people who were totally different work out. My ex-girlfriend was a flaming liberal but apparently she pretended to be a conservative while we were dating. Either that, or she just turned into a far leftist once we broke up in spite of me. Tongue

Okay, well the problem is that you don't know anything about her. You have a physical attraction to her and nothing else. I guess none of us really know what to tell you until you actually learn something about her. It's sad that she doesn't have a Facebook. Is she in a sorority? If so, you could ask one of her sisters about her. That's what I did with a girl in my economics class. I found out she was a far right conservative from Long Island of all places.... Cheesy

Dude, we're young. When have we ever see relationships totally work out?

It's the exception to the rule but look at Carville and Matalin. Not only are they polar opposites but they are political heavyweights, basically doing battle against each other. In this cynical world, sometimes love can trump all things.

I doubt that this girl is in a sorority. That would actually be a turnoff. I'm sorry if this sounds elitist but she seems more sophisticated than that (I'm not a fan of frats and sororites but I'm not at the BRTD level).

I'm not going to lie and say that my attraction isn't mostly based on her looks at this point but there's something else about her that I really like. There are other girls in some of my other classes that are good looking but I don't like them as I do with this girl.

Well, if you think something is there, go for it. Sometimes it's hard to gage what a girl is really like in class versus what they are like outside of class. You might think you like her, but really you have no idea till you meet her out of class.

I hope things work out for you, though. Finals is a good time to try and make a move when it doesn't appear awkward. Hopefully you'll sit by her again so it won't see like you were watching her from afar and calculating your moves. It needs to appear casual. Last thing some girl wants is a stalker who is secretly watching her from afar, unless that's what she wants you to do. Wink

It's easy here at Wake because its a small school so we see the same people all the time. But you better hurry. My finals begin next week, so I assume yours can't be too far off. I'd hate for you to take that final and then never see her again!

This conversation cannot happen without pics.

Also, what's wrong with just talking to the woman?  It's not that difficult.

I get very, very shy. I kind of talked to her yesterday. I won't explain why it was "kind of" talking.  Tongue

I have class with her tomorrow. We'll see what happens.

The forum consensus seems to be that you just have to start talking to her, a strategy that you support in theory.

Now you just have to back it up with action or wind up with more posts from this thread on the "Comedy Goldmine" thread. Wink

Good luck!

Hey, it's easy for me to give dating advice to my friends, now that I'm married.

Most of my guy friends are currently single, so trust me, this hasn't been that unusual lately  Tongue

Just imagine the worst thing that can happen (Her saying "no" or kind of brushing you off) accept it, come to terms with it, and then you know you won't have anything to be disappointed by in asking her.  Only way to get better at talking to girls is to start somewhere.

That's the absolute worse case scenario.  Didn't you say you only have a few classes left with her?  It's now or never.  Better to regret the things we do, not the things we don't do.

Exactly.  But I'm just saying once you realize that the worst case scenario is no big deal and a "good" scenario being a giant positive utility, it helps to get over your shyness.

And even if it doesn't work, then at least you've had practice working up the nerve.

Guys, please realize that this might not be my last class with her. She's a Liberal Arts student.

What school do you go to? Is it a big campus? And what does being a Liberal Arts student have to do with anything? Is she majoring in the same thing? Or do you think she'll be in other classes with you? We are all liberal arts students at Wake until our junior years....

But yeah, it's now or never. You can't bank on seeing her in another class. If you've only spoken to her a few times, though, I can't make a call on how to start a conversation about studying without sounding a bit creepy. I'd like to be a fly on the wall in that class, though.

Also, if it wasn't said before, this thread is useless without pictures....
