Minneapolis (ground only -- I drove to Minneapolis, my mom didn't want to road trip, so she flew and I picked her up there)

Good point - do pickups/dropoffs of other people count?

If so, I'd add Moncton, New Brunswick, to my list.

Been there; done that.  Exhilarating, isn't it?  Apparently it's the highest major airport in the world.  That's why the runway is so long.  (Sparse air and all that...)

Did you fly Lloyd Aero Boliviano, with the chickens and goats?  I did.  Thoroughgoing experience.  I'd definitely do it again if presented with the opportunity.

Exhilarating, sure... nearly died. Simultaneous altitude sickness, lyme disease, and some sort of parasite marked my months in Bolivia. Skin turned grey, fingernails turned black. Did you look around El Alto (the "city" where the airport is located) at all? Apparently it's now the most populated place in the whole country, but the government won't allow a new census. It's a neverending favela upon the altiplano, stretching nearly to Lago Titicaca the last time I was there. Plus it's the most protest-prone place in the country. The two-lane road to the airport was dynamited a number of times during my tenure.

No LAB for me - it suspended ops in 2008. Per the Fly America Act, it was American Airlines for me. On the way back to Miami we made an unexpected (to me) stop at Viru Viru. Apparently sometimes AA makes the stop at Viru Viru on the way to La Paz as well because the plane still has too much fuel and thus is too heavy to land at La Paz.

What took you to Bolivia? I'm guessing some coca tea made your time more pleasant than mine. What a place.

ˇMate de coca!  Never turned it down.

Mostly a pleasure trip.  It was a combined Peru-Bolivia trip.  Four weeks.  I'd always wanted to greet the sunrise at the Inti Punku.  I also was pretty keen on visiting Tiwanaku.  We hiked the Inca Trail from Sacsayhuaman to Machu Picchu back in '02.  That segment was four long days, with my 55-pound Jansport strapped to my back the whole time.  Sleeping in tents in the frigid, 4400-meter high air.  Good times.  You bet I started every day with a touch of the leaf.

LaPaz was particularly bizarre.  Like you said, what a place!  LAB was the cheapest flight back to Miraflores.  Also a very interesting venue.

I wish I could have had coca tea. My colleagues who were permitted acclimated much more easily. I suffered a lot as a result of Nancy Reagan's prudery.

Sounds like an awesome trip. I still want to make it to Peru one of these days.

Well Nutmeg, at 110 it looks like Santander has us both beat.

Very impressive, Santander. You especially blow Muon and me away in Canada.

I accept the challenge. Smiley

No, but I took advantage of an opportunity to visit Hanscom AFB. There was a rare open house of the MIT research facility there. I only expected to see the main labs, but it turned out the open house included specially refitted aircraft on base for use in research.

That's all well and good, but the real question is which of us will get to 100 first. Smiley

You may have missed my post about that. I ended up with some stargazers at the airport on a clear night. By my count If I am either in the terminal or on the tarmac then I have been to the airport, even if I didn't fly in or out.

Harumph! Your second-place count of 114 to my 116 is even more precarious than I had realized! Smiley

We shall have to agree to disagree on what it means to check off an airport on one's list -- because by your definition, having been to any military base with an IACO code would count, no?

Well, as a former professional pilot and a longtime United 1K (approaching million-miler), I would hope I have been to more airports than you. I fly on average two to three times a week.

Ha! In that case I don't feel too bad being only 13 airports behind you now!

Now I'm at 73 airports (all of which, Nutmeg, I've flown to/from.) I think that puts me in a comfortable fourth or fifth place.

To make Nutmeg happy I've put an asterisk in front of those airports where I did not have a take-off or landing.

Cool

My one regret from my time living in Hawai'i is not getting to LUP. The only airport in the islands with more enplanements that neither of us has flown is Lānaʻi.

131 airports flown, with 2021 additions:
Joint Base Anacostia–Bolling (BOF)
Didn't even know Bolling had an active airfield.  Thought it was all just DIA eggheads.

But maybe thats where all those orange Puddle Pirate choppers I see daily flying over the beltway in the afternoon originate from....

For rotary-wing aircraft, yes. The runway where Khrushchev once flew in no longer can accommodate modern fixed-wing landings. I believe it was shortened to accommodate additional non-flying functions on base.

Surely you've flown/transferred flights in Frankfurt at least once, of all the travel you've done.

FRA/FIAP = one of the worst airports in the world, especially for those of us in the "show-up-5-hours-early-before-an-international-departure" category, because there's no grub/shopping beyond the security gates.   Unless that's changed recently.

No, never, and it sounds like luckily for me. I've found a couple of European airports to be like this, where there is stuff beyond security but not beyond immigration (Copenhagen and Lisbon come to mind). I actually was supposed to transfer next year through FRA on my JFK-SIN flight, but Singapore Airlines just changed it to a direct flight instead. Phew!

How does one "visit" the airport in Split but not actually flown in/out of there (that was actually a major NATO air hub to/from my deployments from Germany to the Balkans back in the day)

Doesn't Split remind you of El Paso, but with cobblestoned streets and a beach?

I returned a rental car there. Picked it up in Zagreb, drove through Bosnia to Split, and from there I boarded a friend's yacht to Dubrovnik.

Ha, I never would have thought of a comparison to El Paso! Split is an actual city, as opposed to the collection of used car lots that masquerades as a city in Far West Texas.
