is there anything as pointless as arguing where the mythical "political centre" is? It's completely subjective and utterly meaningless.

I highly doubt many of the red avatars would respond "who cares" if say, Burke became governor of Wisconsin and Walker decided not to attend.

I hate this about this site.  Right wing is the far right of the American political spectrum.  Ted Cruz is not right wing.  Left wing is the far left of the American political spectrum.  Bernie Sanders is left wing.

The People's Pat was right to skip the inauguration, especially in light of this:

Great. Just gets into office and Rauner is already disappointing me.

In principle you can determine it statistically as the point where half the voters are to the right and half to the left. Of course it is difficult to make an operational definition giving the different views on what constitutes left and right and the number of relevant issues to take into consideration. Still, there are some general principles to go by and completely subjective is hyperbole. It is also a necessary analytical and descriptive tool regarding Western politics - also of some use when looking at much of Latin America and some Asian countries.

Yup, barely inaugurated and he's already slashing workers' wages. Too bad the good people of Illinois did not listen to Pat Quinn's many warnings that this would happen.

I have a feeling Rauner is going to become one of this forum's pet hates as time goes on.

What's so disappointing to you?

I have a feeling Rauner is going to become one of this forum's pet hates as time goes on.

He has been since August 2014 Tongue

Yup, barely inaugurated and he's already slashing workers' wages. Too bad the good people of Illinois did not listen to Pat Quinn's many warnings that this would happen.
Well, it's either cut spending or raise taxes, or some combination. How many state contractors actually pay minimum wage, anyways?

As a supporter of minimum wage increases and making governors\presidents release tax returns, this reversal does not please me.

He felt he didn't get a fair shake from Rauner during the campaign with his untruths about his 67% tax hike, which was to benefit schools, not to go in his own pocket.

Anyways, I think he is over it now, and should have gone, but he felt it was unfair to the taxpayers of ILLINOIS, not him.

It's a bit petty, but it's honest and I can respect that.

The morality of it depends on whether Quinn has ever insisted upon respect for the office.

I like Bruce Rauner. Quinn is just sore because he lost the governorship; he took a full day to concede a loss that was 5%.
