An interesting little scuff in the ol' NJ-03, where first-term Rep. Adler (D) is seeking re-election in a Republican-leaning district:

Runyan accuses man of harassing family

Team Adler denies pictures of Runyan's daughter were taken, and apologized for the event. Later, though, they attacked Runyan for trying to make the incident a political issue.

... I'm willing to give Adler himself the benefit of the doubt, but his campaign staff is total sleaze.

Hope this isn't another MAS117 genius ploy.

I'm sure Adler wasn't personally involved, but he needs to do an internal investigation and fire whoever decided to go through with that little covert operation.

PolitickerNJ.com reminds us today that this incident is almost identical to one that happened seventeen years ago: Gov. Florio's campaign sent photographers to Christie Whitman's house, who got caught and were immediately traced back to the Democratic campaign.

I believe Adler's campaign 100% when they say that no pictures were taken of the daughter, of course.

They may have been looking for dirt, however.

Doesn't Runyan mean his "farm"?

I would not put this past Adler. He has shown interest in the 'farm' issue time and time, again. He probably thinks it is his ticket to lock up the election. He's also a good candidate for the biggest con-artist politician in the entire state.

I'd be hard pressed to name one rural/exurban politician in the state who doesn't take advantage of the state's "farm" property tax designation. It's pretty played out as an issue, and if people like Adler actually cared, they'd pass a law getting rid of it. Christie Whitman was hit over the head with this in 1993 to little effect. Dick Zimmer and Bob Torricelli are now literal neighbors—and both take advantage of ... you guessed it ...
