Every hour since 10AM CNN has been running a video of this woman who decided her Presidential vote by a coin toss.  And they are presenting it as "this is democracy".  WTF.  This is why some people shouldn't be allowed to vote.  Yes, this right here is exactly why the Founders sacrificed.  So that you can make a totally uneducated decision and leave your vote to chance.

I totally agree, Chris.

That does sound ridiculous. If you're resorting to a coin toss to decide, it would be better if you just didn't vote. When all else fails...just stay home.

I'm telling you . . . a knowledge test is sounding more and more tempting.

As an Obama supporter, but a democracy supporter, I wish that lady had cast an educated vote for McCain rather than a coin flip for Obama.

It's a psychological thing. There has been so much crap about this election over the past 2 years that people want to feel like they are participating, even if they don't particularly care for either of the two choices. Just think, this coin toss is probably the best day of this woman's life: she's got her 15 minutes of fame.

Hahaha . . . well, you do have a point there.  Smiley  I'm just not sure it's the 15 minutes I'd want.  Tongue

If Florida voters in 2000 had employed this method to decide between Bush and Gore, the margin probably wouldn't have been as close.

Oh, I think everyone should have to take the citizenship test in order to be allowed to vote.

A natural result of the VoteVoteVote nonsense.

15 minutes of infamy would be more just.

this is exactly how tied elections are dealt with in Canada. The Chief Electoral Officer flips a coin.

Sadly enough, yes.

Isn't a runoff held?

Earl, you're wrong. In Canada, we redo the election. Not a runoff. For provincial elections, each province decides. In Ontario, the returning officier decides who is elected. In Quebec, we redo the election. A draw is only used in Yukon and Nova Scotia.

Was her last name Chigurh by any chance?

(sorry, a bit obscure...)
