I don't see what the problem is. San Antonio is the size of a small state, and he moved on to a Cabinet position.
Wasn't Mayor of San Antonio basically a part-time job, with the majority of the power in the hands of the City Council and the City Manager?

Well, the Governor of Texas is also a weak position, and yet no one complained about Bush's qualifications...
In retrospect, we should have.

This is where I get annoyed with identity politics. If there isn't a qualified Hispanic candidate for president, then Hillary has no business picking one. It's as simple as that. It's not her fault that the Democratic Party has been pretty bad with getting Hispanic leaders on the national radar. It's not her fault that Loretta Sanchez doesn't have the same talent for national politics like Kamala Harris does. It's also not her fault that the Castros live in Texas, and that Antonio Villaraigosa is essentially a pandering crook.

Hillary is doing her damned best right now to make herself as viable to the Hispanic community as possible with her positions on immigration. Obama is pretty much going as far as he can go in elevating talent like Castro and Tom Perez to positions of power within the federal government. What more could they possibly do?
Maybe look in the mirror and ask why Republicans have better Hispanics candidates than Democrats, just maybe?

Are there even any Democrats on the level of a Sandoval or Martinez?
One factor is that Democrats are more reliant on winning in majority-minority areas.

That leaves them with many members of Congress unable to appeal to enough people to win statewide office. It's the reason there are as many African-American Republicans in the Senate as African-American Democrats.

There is also an element of luck. Menendez has been in statewide office longer than Rubio, Sandoval, Martinez or Cruz, and was the highest ranked Democrat in the foreign relations committee. But he's also under investigation.

Castro is unqualified and it will become evident very quickly that he isnt ready for primetime. Mayor of San Antonio and HUD Sec would make him the least qualified candidate in living memory.
Given Hil's advanced age and failing facilities, there is a higher chance of his becoming President before Hildog is finished her term(s).
Yeah, if you're 8 or younger, but I doubt that's the demographic Hillary would be going for.

He is less qualified than Palin.
How so?

What makes Palin's experience more significance than Castro's?

And the claim can't be that Governor of Alaksa was more impressive than a cabinet secretary or Mayor of San Antonio, but that Palin's two years as Governor of Alaska are more impressive than Castro's five years as mayor combined with the two years as cabinet secretary.

I hope the argument isn't just that holding statewide office trumps everything else.

Here's a better written argument for Castro not being qualified.
