Liberty or Death?

Or more accurately ... is liberty worth dying for?  Or would you be willing to sacrifice liberty to stay alive?

Choose Liberty if you believe it is worth dying for.

Choose Death if you think staying alive is more important.

I rather have liberty.
Though, tell me, is there more liberty then the one found in death?

Considering that I am former Navy, Liberty gets my vote.

Life is obviously a lot more important than 'freedom'.

Choose Death if you think staying alive is more important.

That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Not really.  When you look at the key quote where it comes from ("Give me liberty or give me death"), and tie it in with "Live free or die," his choice of "choose death if you think staying alive is more important" is clear.  Either die free (liberty), or live under oppression (death).

I think slaves in the US would have disagreed with you.

Well, at least some of them were somewhat well-treated while they were forced to belong to someone and in involuntary servitude...all smiles, everyone!

You don't have to be well treated to be alive, so it's entirely irrelevant.

Yes, but if you are not free, you have no life to live.

Liberty. I would rather not live if I could not live with the freedoms I now enjoy.

Liberty of course. If people weren't willing to risk their lives for it then we'd all be under the iron heel of tryanny.

Option 3. None of the above.

In other words the question is like saying which is more
important, your heart or your brain.

Not really - from my point of view life as a slave wouldn't really be life at all.

Would the choice have any meaning to a dead person? I think not.
If you chose death over liberty the choice is meaningless.
Besides, this false conundrum is used to justify all kinds of wars which otherwise would not be fought. Without this false conundrum, we would have peace, by now.

Don't delude yourself. Yes, there would be peace - peace under the iron heel of a tyrant. As I said already, if liberty wasn't worth putting your life on the line for then nobody would have stood up to people like Hitler, they would have instead capitulated in exchange for safety under his regime. The only people who would have had any reason other than liberty to fight would have been the Jews and other groups who would have been fighting because their lives were under direct threat anyways. Still, the vast majority are aimed instead to be subjagated to increase the power of the tyrant, so by your logic they would have no reason to risk their lives to overthrow their oppressors.
