Democrats in Orange County, CA and their voters

Orange County used to be very Republican, but Santa Ana was usually represented by a Democrat (Bob Dornan was the lone exception) ever since it got its own district in the early 1960s. What were the Democratic voters like then? They hardly get any publicity. Are today's OC Democrats similar to what they were back then?

Northern Orange County tended to be more blue-collar even from early on and what nonwhite population was there then was concentrated there. Of course, it frequently voted Republican in Presidential elections.

Hispanic voters in Santa Ana voted for Hanna and Patterson. Did blue collar whites in northern OC not always lean GOP? How did the Asian population vote there at the time?
