Definitely what Polnut and Cranberry have said, I don't see how I could support this bill right now.

But that was the same feeling with the Civil right acts, so maybe we will be able to reach to a compromise.

One initial point I'd like to make is to point that out there are elected police commissioners in England and Wales, and they are widely regarded as a joke, and are basically useless. I don;t think that's a model we should be copying.

Elected county sheriffs are a consistent source of colorful stories in local politics in the US, so this is something that most American posters should be familiar with, too.
Wait, sheriffs really exist???
I thought it was a pure creation for cartoons.

I support Cris' amendment. I will open a vote later.

I will still not vote for this bill currently written though.

This is my amendment. Probably all my changes are not shared by my colleagues, but I hope that it'll pass, in order to have a good start point.

Please, vote AYE, NAY or Abstain.

Well well,

Section 1 Clause 2: this is basically "corruption of blood"s mentality. I'm glad this is going to get rid by this amendment.

Section 3: Basically what Hagrid has said. The PORCs shouldn't be able to control the firing or the hiring of the police officers. They might know anything about the police.

Section 4 Clause 3: the most insane part of this bill. Basically, police officers should have to get approval before doing anything??? So, if they see a woman being raped, they couldn't do anything until someone told them to do so? What if someone tries to kill the cop? He couldn't retaliate too???

Clause 4: I don't support lowering wages for police officers, period.
Clause 5: police officers are more efficient when they're young because they're physically stronger.
Clause 6: I don't understand the opposition of that. I mean, sometimes, police officers behave like they were just civilians in order to be more efficient for catching the bandits, etc.
Clause 8: I don't understand this clause.

So AYE

And I will support any amendment that will strip this bill even further.

If I understand correctly, senators objected to changes of Section 3, so I have let this section intact. I will get back to it when Cranberry will be back later

Well, I tend to think it's more bullsh**t to gallivant around the senate and call the people who risk their lives keeping our communities safe "pigs," but that's just me.

What it saddens me the most is to see how some members of the left far-left variety basically voted to forbide police officers the right to unionize.

The purpose of unions is to protect and empower workers. Police unions are reactionary organizations that exist to protect and empower enemies of workers. Unions are not an end, in and of themselves, but a means towards worker empowerment. If they are being used to protect the harassers of workers, then I don't see much point in them.
Police officers are workers.

TNF, you ought to just withdraw this bill. By the time the softcocks are done with it, it'll be named "The Strongly Worded But Useless Admonishment of Police Bad (Sort Of? I Mean We're Defending It) Behavior Act".
Would be a pretty good idea.

Griffin,
I have explained why I supported to remove all this clause not a long time ago.
