Marielle Franco, from the Party of Socialist and Liberty (PSOL), member of the city council in Rio de Janeiro, human rights activist, former inhabitant of the favela Maré, was murdered last Wednesday.

Probably not, but Marielle's murder is probably linked to Rio's militias and post-intervention. Her main political ally, state legislator Marcelo Freixo (PSOL) lives under police protection for his fight against militias (former public security workers' mafia who take communities from drugs traffic and creates a criminal rule worse than drug dealers, controlling all aspects of community life as satellite television, cooking gas' cylinders, transportation). Murders of left-wing activists grew after Dilma's removal. Marielle and her assessor Anderson Gomes' murder gained proeminence for her being elected officer. She was serving as reporter of Rio's City Council committee monitoring Federal Intervention in Public security.
