A young man was fatally shot Thursday evening just yards from the Occupy Oakland encampment outside City Hall. And before the ambulance had even pulled away, people were debating whether the killing was somehow linked to the month-old gathering.

The next Kent State?

No chance, especially not in the bay area.

Huh?

To me, this is pretty much a non-story.  Other than MAYBE slightly slowing down the ability of first responders to get there, there's nothing the Occupy movement did that lead to his death.  What are we going to do?  Ban crowds bigger than 10 people so EMTs can make a direct bee-line to a victim?

This is Oakland, people get shot.  How this relates to the Occupy movement is location, and that's about it.

Shootings happen almost every night in Oakland. Nothing to see here. I don't see how this would be comparable to Kent state.

I'm thinking that someone is hoping that this turns into another Kent State, because the reference has no real connection to this.

Occupy Oakland: Man shot to death near camp

In other "news," the sky is blue.

FYI Occupy Wall St has turned into a global movement.  It is occurring in numerous cities and towns around the world.  Should we expect that you are going to post about every single local crime that occurs in every city that has an Occupy encampment?  Perhaps you should speak to the mods about opening your own section in the forum where you can place that "information."

The daily stock quote guy finally calmed down and now we have this.  I must have done something awful bad in a former life.

Oh, I'm sure the organizers of OWS are trying their best to see that some protesters other than themselves are killed by the "authorities" so they can cash in on their martyrdom.

And now this, like the food vendor thing in Occupy L.A., will be used by a bunch of "moral majority" retards to discredit the whole movement, a la 1960s/1970s.

There is nothing on the level of either of those decades, Morgan.

Are people trying to claim that it was a quality neighborhood until Occupy Oakland showed up? Check out the reviews for this nearby store.

Krazey, stop posting BS in the forum and keep it where it belongs: in your head.

I'd much rather he post the stories of the underage girls being pimped; women being raped while the organizers attempt to keep the police from investigating; the public masturbation in Madison WI; the drugs; and how cold it will be in a few weeks. Mostly, I look forward to stories about their meekly disbanding without their "demands" being meet because it is too cold.

Still, if he wants to post about this, that's his choice.

This is why we need to lower taxes on the wealthy. With their extra money they would donate to private charity annd hire more unemployed people.

Let's be nicer to Oakland.  It's closer to a murder every four nights (or probably higher, if we're only counting night murders.)  Also, if Oakland is anything like here, a lot of transients have taken the opportunity to join a permanent encampment because they're less likely to be booted than if they're camping in some store's walkway.

Also, let's not confuse "debating" with "speculating absurdly."  Only d-bags and hopeless virgins debate.

That's a very false dichotomy you have there!
