Winston makes a good point: many of this forum's fiercest opponents of mandatory community service are also this forum's fiercest supporters of wage slavery. Strange how that works out.

No, and calling it such is insulting to the millions of Americans who actually were slaves. The fact that having to do community service for a year is even being compared to actual slavery is disgusting, though not surprising, considering the white, middle-class suburbanite tilt of this forum.

Please elaborate as to what you find to be so funny.

"Wage slavery."  Hurrdurr

There's not much funny about wage slavery really, unless you're one of the wage slaveowners.

Calling having to get a job in order to make money to pay your living expenses "slavery" is rather absurd.

They're reliant on their boss in the same way slaves were reliant on their masters.

There's no coercion involved.

It is not slavery, as your not the state's property, but it is very close.

So, you're insulting the intelligence of black slaves then?

Jesus Christ, are we now not going to argue because we're going to piss off the dead? Get over it, and argue like you're adults.

Are you serious? No doubt I disagree with Winston on comparing wage earners and slaves, but I don't see how you can argue that black slaves were reliant on their masters.

My friends back in the Bad Place, and I, always use the term 'serf' to bandy about rather than slave, out of consideration of the even greater oppression applied to the Black.  But in a practical sense there is very little difference.

Haha, nice way of misinterpreting what I said. They had no land and were therefore reliant on their masters. Nevertheless, you trying to make me look racist is quite cute, if misguided.
