At the moment, we have 11 ayes, 9 nays, and 4 abstains. And that could cause problems. The bylaw we've recently passed says, among other things, this:

"The vote will last for exactly 1 week and must require the approval of majority of RPPers voting."

I've discussed this matter with several other people and the general consensus is that, according to this wording, abstains must be counted at the end of the day when we determine what constitutes a majority. That's why the current result would mean that the dissolution motion is rejected since the ayes make up less than 50% of the vote and, therefore, the motion does not have the approval of the majority of RPPers voting.

Since the bylaws do not forbid to change one's vote, I urge those who have abstained to change their vote to either "aye" or "nay" and those who are still planning to vote to vote "aye" or "nay" as well. Of course, you are still free to abstain if you wish to do so as you have the explicit right to abstain, but for the sake of a clear and indisputable result I beg you to take a stand.

Voting lasts for 2 more days.

Damn, with such rule I fear dissolution is a lost cause. Sad

After increased pressure, (jk) I'll switch my vote to Aye. I probably just wouldn't have voted if I knew abstaining would make it less likely to pass. I was just trying to do my part to help reach quorum. Meh.

The current result is: 13 ayes - 9 ayes - 3 abstains
Total number of votes: 25 (20 needed to reach the quorum)
Aye votes needed for a majority: 13

I've never heard of an abstention being counted as anything other than a non-vote.

The potential problem lies in the wording of the above-mentioned clause of our bylaws we've passed recently. Maybe I am indeed overly careful, but apparently I'm not the only one who thinks that "majority of RPPers voting" includes those who voted "abstain". After all, when I opened the vote I explicitly said "please vote aye, nay or abstain".

In the words of Roger Waters,
"fuck all that we've got to get on with these
got to compete with the wily japanese
there's too many home fires burning
and not enough trees
so fuck all that
we've got to get on with these "

Aye.
