Given the staggered declaration times this time around (some contests will not be counting until the Saturday or even later) Blackpool South is likely to be one of the earlier results - and might set the tone of media coverage in the way Hartlepool did in similar circumstances back in 2021.

Its probably too late for even his ultimate total disgrace to result in a *byelection*, sadly.

But its still quite bizarre stuff.

Surely Fylde has to be at least considered, after this evening’s Back to Basics carnival?

Unless the MPs for Fylde and/or Hazel Grove resign pretty imminently, it is now too late for any other process (eg recall) to force byelections in their seats even if the GE is delayed to the end of 2024.

Maybe worth noting that the Tory candidate in the Blackpool South byelection is a Fylde party official.

That result in Blackpool is certainly at the upper end of Labour expectations.

By the time Gildernew has been elected as an MEP and then resigned her Westminster seat, it is going to be too late surely. Now looking very likely Blackpool S *was* the last byelection of this parliament.
