Recently one of the books I've been reading is "Generation of Swine" by Hunter S Thompson and it quite surprised me to find out that Jesse Jackson was considered by many to be the Democratic front runner after Gary Hart ruined his career and Teddy Kennedy once again decided not to run. Not to mention Joe Biden plagizering Neil Kinnock.
Jesse came quite close in real life to taking the nomination from Dukakis; perhaps fear of Jesse Jackson of being George McGovern Part II and a desire to win came first among the Democratic leadership; who I'm sure given their *ahem* values were all terrified of Jackson winning the nomination.
I have no doubt that Bush would win (Though I wonder who Jackson would have picked as a running mate for this scenario) but the questions are: Who would vote for? and Does Jesse win any states (DC Doesn't count)? Oh, and how crazy would turnout in the south be?
