A better 'progressive wildcard' would be Al Franken. They're both progressives from the Great Lakes area that would help get more Berniebots to tolerate Clinton, but Franken has the added benefit of being a comedian who could potentially get millennials more involved.

Stop perpetuating this "Trump will pick a moderate career politician as his running mate" myth. It is not going to happen.
