The Mhairi Black maiden speech was quite interesting.

FWIW, if I we're British, I'd be glad that the Freedom Party and Britain First still exist (as well as the rump BNP) so the neo-Nazis don't try and hijack UKIP.

They couldn't, UKIP applies a very strict ban on anybody which has ever been a member of a far-right party (and are not shy of expulsing people from the party).
Heh, I wasn't aware of that. Good for them.

Although if you ask the British people whether capital punishment should be legal or not, it's very close: 48% would support it. http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-32061822

That is much higher than I would have thought.

If Britons new how messy the death penalty is in it's application (gasping for breath, taking an hour to die, etc.) hopefully a lot fewer people would support it.
I'm anti-death penalty on philosophical grounds, but that really is an overstatement. Very few executions are botched, and many of the recent ones are due to the fact that drug companies are denying certain chemicals, thus forcing states to experiment.

By the way, if Corbyn survives today then we might end up seeing a long-held wish of mine - the MP for Bolsover on the front bench. Tbh there won't be many other choices......
Skinner has just been a really prominent backbencher all this time?

Heh. Before the referendum when I was convinced that Remain would narrowly win and Cameron would cling on, I believed that May would be the next PM. Ironically, in spite of everything, she has regained that position.

So the BBC apparently thinks that the revelation that some Prince is dating some actress I've never heard of (and that he hates that the media is harassing her) is more important news than something else that's taking place today, as it's the current top story on its website:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-37908096

Notice the irony anyone?

Surely the broadcasting rules that apply to our general election days don't also apply to U.S. presidential election days do they?

Considering he has a nephew and a niece and won't be on the throne, the only remotely interesting aspect to the story is that she's apparently been divorced. A rehash of the Edward VIII thing isn't likely at all.

When has marriage to a divorced actress ever gone well?
I've thought about this for a solid three minutes and cannot come up with an example off the top of my head.

In not entirely shocking news, Douglas Carswell is resigning from UKIP.
Funny he doesn't think he floor crossing requires a by election now...

Anyway he has no future with the tories, maybe he should try forming a libertarian UK brand
I tweeted that to him and Daniel Hannan earlier.

Good luck holding Clacton on a libertarian platform lmao.
Hasn't he already basically done so? "Libertarian" being used very flexibly?
