Looks like Tancredo is now the de facto Republican nominee.

Tancredo said Maes was the third party candidate now and apparently he was right.

To be fair, McInnis had a large scandal just a few weeks before the primary.

Tancredo is actually an advocate of marijuana legalization, believe it or not.

If Tancredo gets over 10%, the ACP will be classified as a major party in CO - if Maes gets less than 10%, the GOP will get classified as a minor party . . .

True. People didn't vote for Maes, people voted for "that other guy."

Whoops!

Which would be hilarious Grin

I always thought that, except for immigration, Tancredo was your standard Republican.

Did he say that? I only know of his immigration views.

He said that in a Republican Presidential debate. Most of his focus did seem to be on immigration though.

The former is likely. The latter is impossible. Too many low information straight-ticket GOP voters in CO. Lieberman barely pushed Schlesinger under 10% in Connecticut in 2006 even though Schlesinger was a much more disastrous candidate than Maes, and Connecticut is a much more Democratic state than Colorado.

No way Maes gets under 10%.  There's too many uninformed party-line voters and reverse-racist Hispanics who vote on last names to make it happen.

This is another example of how I believe the Tea Party is doing in the Republicans, if it was Hickenlooper vs Maes, it would be a toss up, but with Tancredo taking away so many of Maes' votes, that puts Hickenlooper in front.  Ever since I heard Tancredo's speech calling for a return to segregation, I can't take him seriously.

Um, Hickenlooper is actually creaming Meas in a 1-on-1 matchup.  Colorado GOP got terrible luck this year by having both their Gubernatorial candidates have serious ethics problems, and Tancredo's reason for entry into the race was supposedly a threat to encourage Maes to drop out so the CO GOP could nominate someone halfway decent.

Those of you who think this is "ARG EVIL TEA PARTIERS DESTROYING MODERATE CHANCES BY RUNNING 3RD PARTY" are just grasping at straws here.

I don't know. I remember seeing a lot of polls that had Hickenlooper and Maes close to each other in a one-on-one scenario. Of course, such a scenario wouldn't be very close now. That should go without saying, I think.

Maes is actually the Tea Partier here, Tancredo is just a semi-bigot.  Can certainly understand your confusion though.

Maes makes Tancredo look moderate by comparison Grin
