The optic is key here. If this is combined with really heavy material leaked (thought I wouldn't bet on it) it could do considerable damage.

The polls were already "tightening" in the past couple days... the media will imply this is the cause, even if it's just partisans coming home.

If there is nothing else besides this letter, then the impact is probably marginal beyond what already was likely to happen.
