How would you have voted (if you could) if the VP candidate was the nominee (presuming your choice was based on the person as well as the party and the national climate)?

I'm going to work backwards

2004- Edwards v Cheney
No contest. Edwards due to party and likeability.

2000- Cheney v Lieberman
Lieberman. See above!

1996- Gore v Kemp v Choate
I liked what I saw of Kemp, and Gore was pretty boring back then, I'd say Gore.

1992- Gore v Quayle v Stockdale
A wierd trio. Despite what I'd said about Gore, I'd have backed him. Stockdale had difficulty hearing!

1988- Quayle v Bentsen
Bentsen. A fine man, orator and politician

1984- Bush v Ferraro.
Difficult. Bush by a whisker

1980- Bush v Mondale v Lucey
Mondale. He wasn't behind the times, he was ahead of them.

1976- Mondale v Dole.
Dole. Only because he was more established than Mondale

1972- Agnew v Shriver.
Shriver. Spiro was....well Spiro.

1968- Agnew v Muskie v LeMay
Muskie.

1964- Humphrey v Miller.
I know little of Miller, but a lot about Humphrey. So Humphrey

1960- Johnson v Lodge
Johnson.

I can't go much further back. What about your opinion? Would steadfast Republicans have backed someone other than Quayle? Would Dems have been comfy with Shriver? What do you think.

Yes. Cheney's, not Edwards's or Lieberman's. Well, actually...Idon't think I could have stomached Lieberman. I'd've voted, what's her name? Nader's running mate.

Gore, easily. In 1996, Gore as a new face. If he'd been president instead of Clinton for four years, and behaved exactly the same in office, Nader's running mate.

Mondale each time

Same. If there's one Southern Democrat I could've swallowed in 1960, it's Johnson. Or I might've written in Rockefeller.

I didn't! Me voting for Gore, Bensten, Muskie, Humphrey and Johnson? No way. I have to read the questions more carefully.

My mistake. I was thinking about the 50s. Lodge would get my support.

And, yes, I like my partisan list thank you very much Smiley I love when people say "Oh that's very partisan. You can't support all those Republicans." Well...yeah it might be partisan but that doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad thing. They represent what I believe in. Am I supposed to go for someone I don't agree with?
