I was campaigning in Wisconsin in the last few weeks of the election mainly based in La Crosse, St.Croix and Eau Claire. Looking at the county results i do get really frustrated looking at counties that we can win with a little campaigning - this i believe needs to be done early in the campaign. go and met the communities in early may/june.
If you take the county map and look east from taylor, price and clark these are the results of the counties that the republicans won..
St.Croix - is difficult to win difference of 3895 Kerry =18,784 = 44.9% Bush = 22,679 = 54.2%
Polk - difference of 922 Kerry 47.5% 11,173 Bush 51.5% 12,095
Burnett - difference of 244 Kerry 48.3% 4,499 Bush 50.9% 4,743
Barren - difference of 334 Kerry 48.9% 11,696 Bush 50.3% 12,030
Washburn - difference of 57 Kerry 49.2% 4,705 Bush 49.8% 4,762
Sawyer - difference of 540 Kerry 46.7% 4,411 Bush 52.4% 4,951
Rusk - difference of 165 Kerry 48.2% 3,820 Bush 50.3% 3,985
Chippawa - difference of 699 Kerry 48.3% 14,751 Bush 50.6% 15,450
Clark - difference of 1000 Kerry 46.1% 6,966 Bush 52.7% 7,966
So 9 counties (take away st.croix) that the democrats lost in northwestern wisconsin by a grand total of 3961 votes. little defeats in a county show that they add up. this is true for minnesota and iowa.
the democrats need to get organised here and challenge these counties. if they could overturn these nine counties the state would be alot harder for republicans to win. we cant just rely on dane, rock and milwaukee coz one day we are going to get burnt.
