He's reversing course on it now:

I guess he figured out he put his foot in it with the pro-life crowd with that answer. I'd say his campaign internals showed it was massively damaging, but I don't think he has internals, does he?

The real question is if he'll now totally deny ever having given his original answer.

(And how much cognitive whiplash Trump supporters can handle.)

He is digging a hole and it is just getting deeper and deeper and deeper and if he is not careful the walls will collapse and he and his campaign will be buried.

I'm starting to wonder if, like Carson last year, it is deliberate. As President, Trump would have to actually work with people instead of wallowing in being the biggest ego in the room, he couldn't do much to hype his brand or his net worth, he'd have a frightening amount of responsibility and accountability, and he'd likely go down in history as a hated failure.

If he flames out spectacularly now, he can blame "the establishment" and even keep on hyping "Make America Great Again" as a cash-cow, for free PR, try to redeem his name and his brand, and wield a sizable amount of influence on the national stage. He can even mount a pro-forma (aka. he doesn't pay much) 3rd party run for the lolz without any real danger of winning.
