Obama: 52 (-3)
McCain: 41 (+4)

Today's Star Tribune Minnesota Poll findings were based on telephone interviews conducted Oct. 16-17 with a representative sample of 1,049 likely voters, out of a total sample of 1,200 Minnesota adults, 18 years old and older. Respondents were identified as likely voters based on their voting intentions and self-reported voting history. Interviews were conducted under the direction of Princeton Survey Research Associates International. Results of a poll based on 1,049 interviews will vary by no more than 3.8 percentage points, plus or minus, from the overall population 95 times out of 100. Margins are larger for groups within the sample, such as Democrats and Republicans. The poll does not include interviews with cell phone users.

It is certainly reasonable to expect a strong tightening of the race everywhere, and this includes Minnesota.  However in this state it is unlikely to overturn Obama.

Considering the last Strib poll, this is not terribly surprising.

Well, folks, you won't have the Strib to kick around much longer. It's melting!

Damn, that's a shame. Hopefully if it ends up sold there won't be much changes to their fantastic reporting.

I like the Star Tribune...

Sure, they have a liberal slant... but for regional news, they are the best.

I think the Star Tribune said that Bush was going to win MN in 2004.

Wrong again, as usual.

Can you guys stop bashing pollsters?  Jeez.

If it was McCain up four points to make the race D+1 or Tie or whatever, then I'd be complaining.   But McCain up four points to keep the margin safely above 10 points?  As far as I'm concerned that still shows Minnesota as being a strong DEM pickup.

I will start concerning myself with bad polls if they start showing something completely off base...
e.g.
MN R+anything to D+3...
PA R+anything to D+3...
IA R+anything to D+3...

When the Strib releases consistent polls that don't produce wild, unexplainable swings that other pollsters never seem to show, we'll stop bashing their polls.

Strib polls suck, the Strib newspaper rules, Strib never had Bush winning Minnesota and as usual J. J. has absolutely no clue what he's talking about. The end.
