Comey's written statement thread

Figured we should have a thread for this.

Before it starts, over/under 4 Trump tweets during the testimony?

Depends on how long it lasts.  I'll go with over 1 per hour.

I wonder if someone 'misplaced' his phone.

The Right tweets are fascinating.

Willingness to admit what he doesn't know makes his testimony about the things he does know more credible, IMO.

I seriously cannot fathom why so many still think we shouldn't be investigating this, that it's a witch hunt, etc.

Do you people not realize that it is FACT that Russia interfered with the election, and that is in itself an aggressive move on par with an act of war?  Why should we NOT be investigating this to the fullest extent of the law?  If either campaign had ANYTHING to do with this, our officials are honor-bound to find out, and you are honor-bound to denounce said campaign, even if you supported it during the election.  Anything less than that is truly unpatriotic, and borderline treasonous.  This goes so far beyond simple politics and partisan fighting.  It challenges the very fundamentals of our government, our elections, and each citizen's own integrity.  I'm going so far as to call any American who opposes this investigation a traitor.

Well said.

Just to clarify, is there also a closed briefing with Comey today?

Yes, scheduled for 1pm Eastern.

Oh and Trump's lawyers and aides will be believable if we get them under oath to swear Comey is unequivocally wrong. They should offer to swear out that statement in testimony to Congress. Until then they're full of it because at this point only one side has sworn under oath.
Showboat swore an oath did he. I guess that makes him super duper trustworthy.

Compared to the other side that didn't swear on oath in their statements? Yep.

People lie under oath all the time. I don't necessarily disbelieve Comey, but I am convinced at this point of something I have suspected since last October; namely, that he is a compulsive attention seeker. That tendency casts doubt on much of what he says.

Surely this describes Trump more than Comey.

The dow has risen 80 points over the course of the testimony.

That's telling.

That people thought it made it more likely that Trump would go and that the do-nothing GOP might pass something?

Or maybe that people thought this would ensure that the GOP would not be able to put anything damaging to the economy into law?

Or most likely, 80 points on the Dow these days is statistical noise. Even if it were significant, there's plenty of reasons one could plausibly give for the effect.

Indeed, as it's now given up those gains (-0.27 as I type this).
