I believe in a less micromanaging God - but the idea that the creation of every human life is willed by God (regardless of circumstance) is not an unusual idea for a Christian, and I can see why some people might find this idea comforting.
Indeed, but you can extend this logic infinitely. If you believe God is omnipotent, then everything that happens in the world happens either because he wants it to happen or because he lets it happens. War, genocide, etc.
