In 2008, both the Republicans and the Democrats insist on nominating the "best possible female" as their VP nominees, regardless of who their Presidential nominees are.

Both parties feel it is "time" to nominate a woman as the VP candidate, and that 2008 is a good time to do it, as there are no incumbent tickets, and the race is open.

Who does each party choose for "best possible female VP," and why do they choose her?

Any thoughts?

DEM-Mary Landrieu

She's charismatic and has shown the ability to stand up to men while keeping a moderate record

REP-Laura Bush or Kay Bailey Hutchison

Laura is wildly popular and Kay is the Republican Mary Landrieu (though nowhere near as moderate)

For us, Landrieu hands down, especially after the hurricane.  More than any other politician in this crisis, Landrieu stands out.  I used to be favorable towards her simply because she's a Democrat, but now I truly admire her.

For the Republicans, a ticket with Dole in the VP spot would make me consider voting for them, if the Democratic ticket was not to my satisfaction.

Do you mean the hurricane?

I don't think Laura Bush is a Republican, even if her husband is.
I pick Blanche Lincoln, as she is very down-to-earth and VERY well-liked.  For Republicans, I suppose Jodi Rell is a moderate that might attract votes since extremists tend to win the primary.
