As a point of interest, Rocky seems to have been in much the same position as Rudy is in now.  Rocky then, like Rudy now, was the favorite of the public, and was shown to be the strongest candidate against any Democrat.  But Rocky, like Rudy, was not the favorite of the Republican primary voters.  (Although in the case of Rudy that still remains to be seen.)

Ironic they are both from New York.
